"My husband didn't think he liked cabbage until I served this. The bacon and onion really give this recipe a lot of flavor."

 1. Excellent cabbage dish! I omitted the bacon & used apple juice in place of the water. The result was slightly sweet, savory, a wee bit of spicy, and excellent cabbage. TThank you for sharing this recipe! =)

 2. This is a wonderful meal. I only par cookedthe bacon and added it back in when I added the sausage. I then fried the whole thing until it was carmalized. We served this with garlic mashed potatoes and rolls. (I like to eat the dish on top of the mash potatoes) We will definately make this again, like another reviewer, we thought the balance of flavors was perfect. Thank you so much for sharing ths with us.

Tweaks

 1. Yum! We ate this over mashed potatoes, and it was a hit. It was a bit spicier than I expected, so next time I will halve the red pepper. I think we could also handle only using half the sausage. (We are not big meat eaters. It was a fun change of pace to be eating meat and potatoes.) I may also play around with using maple syrup instead of brown sugar next time. Thanks for a solid recipe!

 3. After many delays, I was finally able to fix this dish, and it was so worth the wait.Since there are only two of us, I fixed half the cabbage and used a 1/2 pound of smoked sausage instead of the kielbasa (personal preferance)and I used garlic powder instead of minced garlic clove.I kept the rest of the ingredients the same, made a big mistake of using the full amount of crushed red pepper flakes was just a little to spicy for me,:) my SO loved it.I asked him if I should make it again and he said sure. Thank you for posting.

I'm 59 and have lived in East Texas for 14 years, having lived most of my life in the Dallas area. My favorite thing to do has always been cooking, especially one pot meals like soups, stews, and chili that can be served with crackers, homemade crusty bread, or cornbread. Of course I cook other things; love to barbecue and love Mexican food, but the one pot meals are my favorite and most comforting, especially in the cooler months.
